Result of Supervised Intermittent Chemotherapy in Treatment of Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract
|
|
|
Infectious pulmonary tuberculosis patients, with less than 1 month¢¥s previous chemotherapy, were treated with anti-tuberculous chemotherapy consisting of INH¢¥; PAS-Streptomycin daily for initial 8 weeks followed by INH-Streptomycin inter) mittently (twice weekly) for 44 weeks. Administration of drugs was entirely supervised during the intermittent phase of chemotherapy. 100 patients who have completed above regimen at the Pusanjin-koo Health Center in Pusan were included into present study. Results obtained were as follows
1. Regularity of drug administration under supervision was 94.5% on an averagle during the entire period of treatment.
2. Sputum conversion rate was 87.8% at 6 months and. 82.0% at 12 months of treatment.
3. Improvement on X-ray was 90.0% at 6 months and 87.0%, at 32 months.
4. Treatment results obtained by the author was inferior to that. of other intermittent chemotherapy trials conducted under controlled- conditions, but superior to that of other primary chemotherapy schemes given. daily under field conditions in Korea.
